Overview:

OneCBT is a psychotherapy and coaching practice based in New Haven, Connecticut and Rhode Island (RICBT). We have psychologists, psychiatric medication prescribers, psychiatrists, and therapists ready to help you now. We are passionate about helping you to overcome all sorts of problems you might be having in your life. These include:

  • Emotional problems, such as depression, anxiety, shame, or guilt
  • Behavioral problems, such as procrastination, avoidance, disorganization, or bad habits
  • Mental or cognitive problems, such as low self-esteem, pessimism, or rumination about the negative parts of yourself or your past.

More broadly, we want to help you face a wide range of relationship problems, such as too little intimacy or too much conflict with your family or friends. We would also love to help you develop a better plan for your career and your future – a plan that plays to your strengths and authentic interests.

We use the training and talent of a unique group of professionals to help you make changes. We do all we can to form a team with you – what we call an alliance – and to help you identify goals. We then work with you to develop a game plan to achieve your goals, and to learn whatever you need in order to reach them. We keep you accountable for your part of the journey, and usually find a way to make progress feel exciting and enjoyable.

About Location

Our New Haven location is right on the edge of the Yale Campus, in the “Gold Building,” as it is known. It is on the third floor in a comfortable suite with gorgeous views of New Haven and Yale out of every window. There is plenty of on-street parking, as well as a parking garage nearby. Most importantly, we are right down the street from several excellent cafes, including Willoughby’s, Koffee, and more.

Our model is to hire “rock stars” – clinicians who are incredibly personable and also offer proven treatment strategies to help you surge towards your goals. We think you will agree that the multidisciplinary team in New Haven meets this standard.

Kathryn Scrimenti, PhD

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Scrimenti (she/her) uses a strengths-based, interdisciplinary, integrative therapy model. Clinical treatment begins with deep and active listening, and the accurate assessment of concerns. Therapy approaches are individualized for each patient based on the presenting problem, style of interaction, and patient needs. Evidence-based treatment modalities may include Interpersonal therapy, supportive, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, skills-building, and psychoeducational approaches. CBT, DBT, ACT, desensitization treatment, bibliotherapy, journaling, and mindfulness practices are often incorporated. Coordination-of-care with important community supports and other health providers may be featured as well. Dr. Scrimenti specializes in ADD/ADHD, Anxiety, Assessment, Autism Spectrum, Clinical Supervision, Depression, Grief, Learning Disabilities, LGBTQ, Medical/Health Psychology and Pain Management, Personality Disorders, Stress, and Trauma. Her services include Individual Therapy, Group Therapy, Cognitive Testing, Consultations, Training and Clinical Supervision. Dr. Scrimenti will also continue to be an adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University, in Hamden CT.

Elizabeth (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who works with teens, young adults and adults. Elizabeth specializes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT is an evidence-based treatment focused on clarifying what matters to you and moving in the direction of your goals and values, even when difficult thoughts and feelings show up. Elizabeth most often works with people who identify difficulty with anxiety, depression, stress and challenges in relationships. Elizabeth balances a collaborative and active approach to therapy. Sessions are focused on helping clients identify and step back from the unhelpful patterns of thinking or behavior, set goals and clarify values and stay accountable in moving toward what matters. Elizabeth seeks to create an affirming space for everyone and is interested in supporting other members of the LGBTQIA community.

Dr. Gu specializes in the treatment of a wide range of health behaviors, including anxiety and depression, from an integrated health model.
She combines Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy with other evidence-based interventions. Dr. Gu’s practice approach embodies a strong emphasis on increasing her patients’ insight of innate strengths, while expanding their capacity to pursue value-driven goals and overcome personal challenges.

Kristen Gayle, PhD, LCPC

Clinical Professional Counselor

Kristen believes therapy is an opportunity to grow and transform psychologically, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. She provides a safe and supportive environment where clients can process their experiences and reality at their own pace. She is dedicated to educating and empowering others to make real and sustainable changes that will produce a lasting and positive impact on their lives. Together, Kristen and her clients develop goals that can help to remove barriers that are preventing the client from being the version of themselves they want to be. Through this collaborative process, the client can learn how to take on more challenging aspects of their lives while enhancing their strengths.
 
Kristen utilizes a psychodynamic/object relations framework and many CBT based interventions in her work. This means she is interested in how a client’s past experiences with primary caregivers have shaped their lives. She also provides skills and techniques to help the client change negative thought patterns and improve their current relationships. Her main areas of interest are depression, stress, anxiety, trauma, body image, sleep problems, OCD, parenting, and anger.

Melissa is a board certified family psychiatric nurse practitioner.   She focuses on all factors of an individual’s life to provide optimal care.  Melissa provides medication management with supportive therapy to individuals 5 years and older.  She has extensive experience with ADHD, anxiety, attachment, depression (bipolar, unipolar), OCD, PTSD, and trauma

Reeti provides counseling services to children, teens, adults, and families.  She utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Play therapy to help clients learn new skills to meet their social, career, and educational goals.  Reeti also has experience working in schools as a therapist and strongly believes in collaborating with teachers and family members to reach treatment goals.  Additionally, Reeti helps children, teens, and young adults resolve multicultural identity issues and improve communication among families.

Catherine Frankel, LCSW

Sandra Grzybowski, LICSW

Clinical Social Worker

Sandra is a licensed clinical social worker who has experience working with diverse populations, including adolescents and their families, and “reluctant therapy-goers.” Sandra’s work focuses on connecting clients with the tools and skills they need to cope and succeed. Sandra has provided individual, family and group therapy to youth with complex trauma histories. Sandra values compassionate understanding, empathy, and accountability. Sandra has a trauma-informed approach that helps acknowledge and validate experience, and helps clients progress and live life to its fullest potential. Sandra draws upon her training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused-CBT (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Insurances Accepted

We accept most major insurances including: Magellan (Yale), Anthem BCBS, Optum, Aetna, and Medicare. We do not accept Husky. For insurances we don’t accept, we will help you submit claims to your carrier for potential reimbursement, depending on your out-of-network benefits.
