"Dr. Matsko started his career managing group homes for teens before spending a decade in the addictions research department at Butler Hospital/Brown Med School as a research associate and returning to graduate school. He obtained his PhD from URI where he worked with Dr. Jim Prochaska focusing on health behavior change and motivation. He completed both his predoctoral internship (behavioral medicine track) and post-doctoral fellowship (adult track) at Brown Med School and was primarily based at the Providence VA.
A significant portion of Dr. Matsko's clinical training and research has focused on integrating mental health access into areas such as primary care and non-traditional settings like retail health clinics, which was the topic of his dissertation. Dr. Matsko is now 100% committed to clinical work but prioritizes the role of research and importance of evidence-based practice. He has specific training in CBT/ACT interventions for addiction/substance use, trauma, sleep, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, ADHD, and anger management.
Dr. Matsko enjoys helping people clarify their values/goals, identify the barriers that are in their way, develop a strategy to overcome them, and provide the tools required to do so.
